Entrepreneur Business Ideas

Illawarra Profitable Business Ideas- “I’m also a V8 Driver”
I found Heidi Yi to be a very interesting lady. She walks the walk of an Entrepreneur. She understands the value of self promotion. With her own mineral based cosmetics line she is very visible both online and offline. She regularly attends business networking events, has a website that stands out and a facebook presence that can’t be missed. She is an eBay Power Seller.
In other words Heidi Yi is “un-missable”. She pops up everywhere. If you attend business events in the Illawarra…you must meet Heidi eventually.
Heidi is also the author of 2 books that she has self published – “Pro Makeup by Heidi” and “Oops, I Self Published” which has just been re-released. She told me that Bartercard, for which she is a Double Ambassador, had virtually saved her business in the early days by getting her loads of new Trade and Cash business.
Heidi also likes big cars. She has been a car model and proudly states that “I’m also a V8 driver and a member of 2 Car Clubs”. No small cars for Heidi. They have to have a “real” engine under the bonnet.
I asked Heidi how she came to produce her own cosmetics line. “Well,” she replied, “I was a makeup artist for 10 years in the wedding and fashion industries in Brisbane. I was also a hair model for hair care companies.” In 2006, while still living in Brisbane, Heidi made the Top Five Makeup Artists in Queensland for the Australian Bridal Industry Association (ABIA). After moving to Sydney later that year she was listed amongst the Top Eleven ABIA Makeup Artists in NSW in 2007.
In Sydney, Heidi did a lot of wedding makeup for Asian brides but was beginning to tire of this work. Whilst attending a Beauty Expo and buying nail tips that she then retailed on eBay at “twice the price”, she began to get interested in online selling. By selling nail stickers on eBay and processing sales daily, Heidi became an eBay Power Seller in 6 months.
After spending a year in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Heidi and her husband, who is a doctor, moved to Wollongong. Setting up Heidi Yi Cosmetics in 2007, she began to sell her unique mineral based products online. She also wholesales to Nail Salon owners and does some direct retailing as well as selling on eBay.
One evening, after a Wollongong Small Business Club meeting, she approached the Guest Speaker whose presentation was based on eBay selling. He gave her some tips and eventually she found a Trainer who mentored her in how to sell effectively on eBay. Heidi now has almost 500 Positive Feedbacks.
The products are manufactured in Australia and Heidi sells in the middle range for chemical free mineral cosmetics. She says that, because it is a home based business with very low overheads, her products offer value for money. You can shop online 24/7 and there is no minimum order. All orders are processed daily. The only problem she has, says Heidi, are “Emails. I’m drowning in them.”
Heidi’s Tip for Small Business People: Ask yourself “Why are you doing this? Is your heart in Your Business? If your heart’s not in it, don’t do it.”
