Online Computer
Where can you get a quality online computer degree that will be taken seriously by companies?

I would like to develop computer schools that will help me with a career in computers. I have really started to enjoy them and think it would be an interesting field. Of course, pay is important, but I also want to do something I like. What are the best jobs in the field of computers & IT? Can I get the qualifications I need to land a good job doing online programs and part time study while working full time? Anyone out there in the computer or IT fields that can help?

I got two of my degrees in person (BS and AA in data process), but am getting my MS degree now from a local college that offers most of its classes online. As long as you pick a college that is well-known, you’ll be ok with a degree from them. But don’t pick one of the “on-line only college programs”, they are considered a joke.

What are the hottest jobs in IT? Not programming right now, since those jobs are being outsourced. But lots of baby boomers are retiring, and people are scared off from IT, so we’re going to have a huge IT need in the next few years, since IT college programs are at very low enrollments right now.

According to the US Dept of Labor, these are the some of the fastest growing occupations for 2004-2014 (they usually require a bachelors degree and usually make over $43,000):

1) Computer scientists and network systems and data communications analysts (its hard to outsource figuring out your local network configuration)
2) Computer software engineers, applications
3) Computer software engineers, systems software (people making the software that runs the programs, that run financial programs)
4) Network and computer systems administrators (Folks in charge of the network analysts and techs)
5) Computer scientists and database administrators (database folks will always get the top jobs, it’s difficult work)
6) Computer systems analysts

Here’s the link to the descriptions of the jobs: http://www.bls.gov/oco/oco1002.htm

Good luck!

Computer and Online Games in Germany

Computer and Online Games in Germany

How to Strategically Evaluate Germany. Perhaps the most efficient way of evaluating Germany is to consider key dimensions which themselves are composites of multiple factors. Composite portfolio approaches have long been used by strategic planners. The biggest challenge in this approach is to choose the appropriate factors that are the most relevant to international planning. The two measures of greatest relevance to computer and online games are “latent demand” and “market accessibility”. The figure below summarizes the key dimensions and recommendations of such an approach. Using these two composites, one can prioritize all countries of the world. Countries of high latent demand and high relative accessibility (e.g. easier entry for one firm compared to other firms) are given highest priority. The figure below shows two different scenarios. Accessibility is defined as a firm’s ease of entering or supplying from or to a market (the “supply side”), and latent demand is an indicator of the potential in serving from or to the market (the “demand side”). Framework for Prioritizing Countries. Demand/Market Potential Driven Firm. Relative Accessibility. Accessibility/Supply Averse Firm. In the top figure, the firm is driven by market potential, whereas the bottom figure represents a firm that is driven by costs or by an aversion to difficult markets. This report treats the reader as coming from a “generic firm” approaching the global market – neither a market-driven nor a cost-driven company. Planners must therefore augment this report with their own company-specific factors that might change the priorities (e.g. a Canadian firm may have higher accessibility in Canada than a German firm). Latent Demand and Accessibility in Germany. This report provides a detailed overview of factors driving latent demand and accessibility for computer and online games in Germany. Latent demand is largely driven by economic fundamentals specific to computer and online games. This topic is discussed in Chapter 2 using work carried out in Germany on behalf of American firms and authored by the United States government (typically commercial attachés or similar persons in local offices of the U.S. Department of State). I have included a number of edits to clarify the information provided. Latent demand only represents half of the picture. Chapter 2 also deals with micro-accessibility for computer and online games in Germany. I use the term “micro” since the discussion is focused specifically on computer and online games. Chapter 3 is also a stand-alone report that I have authored. It covers proxy pro-forma financial indicators of firms operating in Germany. I use the word “proxy” because the provided figures only cover a “what if” scenario, based on actual operating results for firms in Germany. The numbers are only indicative of an average firm whose primary activity is in

 21 Dog Years

21 Dog Years

$16.95

In 1998, when Amazon.com began to recruit employees, they gave temp agencies a simple directive: send us your freaks. Mike Daisey — slacker, onetime aesthetics major — fit the bill. His subsequent ascension, over the course of twenty-one dog years, from lowly temp to customer service representative to business development hustler is the stuff of both dreams and nightmares. Here, with lunatic precision, Daisey describes lightless cube farms in which book orders were scrawled on Post-its while technicians struggled to bring computers back online, as well as fourteen-hour days fueled by caffeine, fanaticism, and illicit day-trading from office desks made out of doors. You’ll meet Warren, the cowboy of customer service, capable of verbally hog-tying even the most abusive customer; Amazon employee #5, a computer gamer who spends at least six hours a day locked in his office killing goblins but is worth a cool $300 million; and Jean-Michele, Daisey’s girlfriend and sparring partner, who tries to keep him grounded, even as dot-com mania seduces them both. Punctuated by Daisey’s hysterically honest fictional missives to CEO Jeff Bezos, 21 Dog Years is an epic story of greed, self-deception, and heartbreak — a wickedly funny anthem to an era of bounteous stock options and boundless insanity.

3D User Interfaces with Java 3D

3D User Interfaces with Java 3D

$128.4

Readers learn how to incorporate the 3D user interface for next-generation business needs, such as mass customization and online sales, and even scientific visualization and gaming. Provided are a conceptual framework for 3D user techniques and a Java 3D framework that demonstrates many of the 3D techniques. Reviews an overview of some of the techniques used in mapping the 3D virtual environment to the 2D screen….provides a high level discussion of user interface design considerations and concepts. It explores where using 3D in a GUI can enhance the usability of software and what the options are for enabling the user to navigate the virtual 3D universe using the common input devices…does well at providing a balanced discussion of how Java 3D, in its current release, can be used to implement graphical user interfaces. Overall, the book presents itself as somewhat academic in nature but does well at providing a balanced discussion of how Java 3D, in its current release, can be used to implement graphical user interfaces. (Rated 4 out of 5) Adrian Hibbert, British Computer Society member and Senior Systems Developer I was struck by Jon’s understanding that 3D is not a goal but rather a tool for making applications potentially better. In other words just because an application is 3D it is not necessarily superior. This is an excellent and important point. Jon Barrilleaux clearly is an intelligent and experienced software developer. …[He] should be given a standing ovation for producing such an excellent piece of work for a topic (Java 3D) that desperately needs more documentation.
